Two days ago a US Navy destroyer and a Chinese destroyer nearly collided and this is has started some conflict between China and the United States, according to the New York Times ” the United States as well as other nations have intensified Naval and Patrols in the sea to signal that the territories there are in international waters.” This current event shows how China is adamantly trying to gain control of the South China seas by chasing out other nation’s navies. After doing some research on the matter I found out that the area of the South China Sea that China is trying to drive the other nations out of is a common trade route and these ships that China is trying to keep out of this area are practicing something called the freedom of navigation exercises. China has tried to claim the South China Sea as their territory by creating man made islands.

In my opinion China is making dangerous calls with the United States as well as with other nations of the world. I think that with China making all of these accusations that the United States is trying to provoke war with China by having a naval presence there in the South China Sea is absurd because for those of you who don’t already know this but part of the South China Sea is a trade route and to try to claim the whole South China Sea is ridiculous because how else is the rest of the world going to get their international exports from.
